Mount Apoi

Trail description

Apoi, 810 m, rises above Samani at the southwestern end of the Hidaka range. The mountain is made of peridotite, a rare rock from the earth's mantle, so forest grows poorly and alpine serpentine plants flower at low altitude. The alpine plant community is a special national natural monument and the mountain is the core of the Apoi UNESCO Global Geopark. This route climbs from the visitor centre side through forest and open ridge to the summit.
