Mount Akita-Yakeyama

Trail description

Akita-Yakeyama, 1,366 m, is an active stratovolcano on the border of Kazuno and Senboku, in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. This route climbs from the west to the summit on the rim of the crater. The summit crater holds Yunuma, a milky hot crater lake steaming with sulphur, and the central dome of Onigajo. The volcano has a JMA eruption alert system, so check the current level before going.
