Kurama to Kibune

Trail description

A 1.8 km forest path over the mountain between Kurama and Kibune in the hills north of Kyoto, with about 170 m of climbing through old cedar forest. The route crosses the grounds of Kurama-dera, where an entry fee is charged, and follows the Kinone-michi, a stretch of trail covered in exposed tree roots. At the Kibune end the path drops to the river valley and Kibune Shrine, dedicated to the god of water; the whole crossing takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
