Trail description
This short climb starts at Shimoyoshida station on the Fujikyuko line, about ten minutes on foot from Arakurayama Sengen Park on the slope of Mount Arakura in Fujiyoshida. It passes the Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, founded in 705, and from the shrine grounds climbs the Sakuyahime Stairway, 398 stone steps about 200 m long named after Konohanasakuya-hime, the goddess of cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji. At the top of the stairs stands the Chureito, a five-storey pagoda 19.5 m high completed in 1962 as a memorial to 1,055 of the city's war dead. The route is about 0.9 km with some 105 m of climbing and ends at the observation deck, whose view takes in the pagoda, the town of Fujiyoshida and Mount Fuji.
