Trail description
A 1.9 km climb of about 270 m from Via Scalette above Rocca di Papa to near the top of Monte Cavo, at 949 m the second highest of the Alban Hills. The summit was the site of the temple of Jupiter Latiaris, the shared sanctuary of the Latin League, reached by the Via Sacra, a Roman road of which about 5 km of basalt paving survives. In 2026 the mountain, the Via Sacra and nearby Prato Fabio were declared an area of special cultural interest.
