Trail description

The loop starts at the paid car park by the Lago di Tenno and circles the lake on its shore paths and tracks. The lake lies at about 570 m at the foot of Monte Misone and probably formed in the 11th or 12th century, when a huge landslide blocked the Rio Secco stream. It has no surface outflow: its water seeps through the ground into the Magnone stream, which forms the Varone waterfalls (Cascate del Varone). The water level can vary by 10 to 15 m over the year, so in summer the island becomes a peninsula that can be reached on foot, while in spring and autumn the water can cover the path and much of the beach. The loop is about 3.0 km long, with some 105 m of climbing.
