Trail description
The walk leaves Passo Rolle, at the foot of the Cimon della Pala, and climbs by path and track to the Baita Segantini at the Passo della Costazza, where the hut stands by a small natural lake inside the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park. At Passo Rolle the red, red-brown and green quartz porphyry of the Lagorai chain meets the pale sedimentary dolomite of the Pale di San Martino, whose walls face the hut. The Baita Segantini is named after the landscape painter Giovanni Segantini and was built in 1936 by the mountaineer Alfredo Paluselli, who lived there alone for 35 years. The walk is about 2.1 km one way, with some 215 m of climbing.
