Loughcrew Cairns

Trail description

A short but very steep path climbs from the car park below Carnbane East to Cairn T, one of the largest passage tombs of the Loughcrew Megalithic Cemetery near Oldcastle. The tombs date to around 3000 BC, and Cairn T's chamber is aligned to the rising sun at the spring and autumn equinoxes. The OPW notes that the interior of Cairn T is currently closed for conservation works.
