Church Mountain

Trail description

This walk starts beside Yellow Lough on the Hollywood Glen road, climbs through forest and then follows a steep path along the forest edge onto the open summit of Church Mountain. Also called Slieve Gad, it is the westernmost of the Wicklow Mountains at 544 metres. The summit holds the remains of a large ancient cairn and a small medieval church, and pilgrims once climbed it at Lughnasa to visit a holy well.
