Trail description

The steep and quiet Suwanting route up Mount Merbabu in Central Java, through forest and long grass slopes to the 3,145 m summit, facing the smoking cone of Merapi. About 11.5 km out and back with some 1,730 m of climbing; most walkers take two days and camp on the open slopes below the top. Book online with Merbabu National Park, which closes the mountain in the wet season.
