Guntur Crater Trail

Trail description

Guntur, above the hot-spring town of Cipanas near Garut, is an active volcano; this route climbs from the Citiis side over open, almost shadeless grassland to the rim of the deep Cipanas crater, the usual hiking objective near the 2,059 m top. It takes about 3 hours up and there is rarely any water, so start before dawn; beyond the crater the ground is hot with drifting sulphur gas.
