Trail description

A two-day trek from the temple town of Gangotri up the Bhagirathi valley past Chirbasa and Bhojbasa to Gaumukh, the snout of the Gangotri Glacier at about 4,000 m where the Ganges is born, beneath the Bhagirathi peaks. A permit from Gangotri National Park is required and the daily number of walkers is limited. Do not go near the glacier face, which drops ice.
