Trail description
This walk drops from the hillside above McLeod Ganj on forest paths past Flag Hill to the church of St. John in the Wilderness at Forsyth Ganj, near Dharamshala. The neo-Gothic church was built in 1852 among deodar forest and is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows given by Lady Elgin. It survived the 1905 Kangra earthquake, though its bell tower fell, and a new bell cast in 1915 now stands in the compound. Lord Elgin, Viceroy of India, who died at Dharamshala in 1863, is buried in the churchyard.
