Trail description
Vindbelgjarfjall (529 m) is a dark hyaloclastite ridge on the west side of Mývatn, formed by an Ice Age eruption beneath glacial ice. From the trailhead on the road just south of the mountain, the path crosses fairly flat ground to its back and then climbs steeply straight up on loose rock, taking about 45 minutes to an hour to the top. The views from the summit are tremendous, but keep off the protected Neslönd nesting area to the north during nesting season.
