Súlur above Akureyri

Trail description

Súlur is Akureyri's town mountain, and this pole marked route starts from the car park at the end of Súlurvegur, about 10 km southwest of downtown, climbing 831 m over 5.3 km to Ytri Súla, the lower of its two peaks. The trail uses wooden steps, sheep tracks and rocky ground with steep, slippery and muddy sections and possible snow, so sturdy boots and hiking poles are recommended. Visit Akureyri estimates 4.5 to 6 hours from the car park, with views over the town, fjord, mountains and valleys when clear.
