Trail description

This trail runs about 4 km from the Vatnsskarð pass on road 94 to Stórurð, a field of enormous boulders, likely left by retreating glaciers, with blue-green ponds and flat green meadows over 400 m above sea level beneath the jagged tuff peaks of Dyrfjöll. It is one of five marked trails into Stórurð, and the return trip takes about 4 to 5 hours, so treat it as a day hike. Snow often lingers far into summer, so the best time is from mid-July until the first autumn snows.
