Trail description
This walk follows the Varmá river upstream through Mosfellsbær on the paths along its banks, from near the Varmárskóli school to the Álafoss waterfall. The Varmá is fed by warm springs and never freezes. Álafoss gave its name to the wool factory founded beside it in 1896, whose machines were driven by the falls and which marked the start of Iceland's wool industry; the old factory building in the Álafosskvos hamlet now houses the Álafoss wool store. The route is about 1.1 km one way.
