Hvaleyrarvatn Forest Loop

Trail description

This loop starts at the western car park by Hvaleyrarvatn, a small lake about 5 km from the centre of Hafnarfjörður, and circles the water on the shoreline path. Around the lake grows Höfðaskógur, a forest planted over several decades that gives rare shelter from the wind. The walk is about 2.8 km and easy, and other trails lead from the lake into the woods and onto the surrounding hills. There are barbecue spots and a playground by the water.
