Trail description

A steady climb from the Hengifoss car park above Lagarfljót up the marked path along the Hengifossá gorge. About halfway you pass Litlanesfoss, a smaller fall framed by some of the tallest basalt columns in Iceland. The walk ends at the viewpoint across the gorge from Hengifoss, which at 128 m is one of the highest waterfalls in the country, dropping over dark basalt cliffs striped with red clay layers laid down between ancient lava flows. Return the same way.
