Esja to Steinn from Esjurætur

Trail description

This is the classic route up Esja, the mountain range about 10 km north of Reykjavík, climbing 554 m over 3.1 km from the Esjurætur hiking centre car park to the rock Steinn at about 597 m. Steinn is where many hikers turn back, as the path to the 780 m summit of Þverfellshorn becomes increasingly difficult beyond it, and that final section is not included here. Esja's paths are graded from one boot (easy) to three boots (challenging), and there is avalanche danger in winter.
