Trail description

A 1.2 km path up Eldfell on Heimaey in the Westman Islands, a cinder cone of about 220 m that was born in the eruption of January 1973. The eruption lasted five months and buried part of the town under lava and ash. The marked path climbs through black ash and red scoria from near the Eldheimar museum and takes about half an hour, with wide views over the town, the harbour and the older cone of Helgafell.
