Trail description
A 1.2 km walk of about 60 m of climbing across the shrub covered lava to the edge of the Eldborg crater in Hnappadalur, on the border of Snæfellsnes and Mýrar. Eldborg, the fortress of fire, is a spatter cone rising 60 m above the lava, 200 m across and 50 m deep. It last erupted about 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, and chains help walkers on the steep final slope.
