Trail description

A 1.9 km loop through the moss-covered Berserkjahraun lava field on the north coast of Snaefellsnes, between Stykkisholmur and Grundarfjordur, with barely 15 m of climbing. The lava came from a row of four scoria craters that erupted some 3,600 to 4,000 years ago; the largest, Raudkula or red crater, is about 380 m wide. The field is named for the saga of two Swedish berserkers who cleared the Berserkjagata track across the lava, and the old path can still be seen.
