Atlavík Cove Forest Walk

Trail description

This loop starts at the Mörk arboretum in Hallormsstaður, where forestry began in 1903 with a 12-hectare tree nursery, and follows forest paths through Hallormsstaðaskógur down to the sheltered cove of Atlavík on Lake Lagarfljót. Atlavík is one of the forest's two campsites, set among tall trees right on the lakeshore. The route returns through the woods on the Atlavíkurstekkur path, about 2.8 km in all. Around 30 km of colour-marked trails run through the forest, with rest and picnic spots along the way.
