Trail description
This loop circles Ástjörn, a pond in a hollow below the Ásfjall hill on the edge of Hafnarfjörður, on the paths around its nature reserve. The pond has been protected since 1978 for its rich plant and bird life, including the only nesting site of the horned grebe in southwest Iceland. Entry inside the protected area is banned from 1 May to 15 July to protect nesting birds, but the paved path around it stays open all year. The loop is about 3.1 km and can be extended up Ásfjall.
