Copán Macaw Mountain

Trail description

Walk from the central park of Copán Ruinas out along the valley road to Macaw Mountain, a bird rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary about 2.4 km from town. The park cares for more than 100 birds, including scarlet macaws, the national bird of Honduras, as well as green macaws, parakeets and toucans. Since 2011, with the World Parrot Trust, it has released dozens of scarlet macaws back into the Copán valley. It is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm and charges an entrance fee.
