Trail description

A short 0.5 km walk along the trail from the Museo del Pirata to the Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, located at the mouth of the Río Dulce where it meets Lake Izabal, in the municipality of Livingston. Built in the 17th century, this fortress was constructed to deter pirates who raided Spanish ships on the main departure route from Guatemala. It served as a fort, prison, and customs house, and still preserves nineteen cannons and the Torre de Bustamante.
