Trail description

The Methana peninsula in the Saronic Gulf is one of the youngest volcanic areas in Greece, and more than 20 of its old paths have been mapped and signposted. This circular hike starts at Makrylongos (Ano Mouska) and crosses the peninsula to the historic volcano above Kameni Chora, which erupted in the 3rd century BC. Near the crater the path winds through otherworldly red lava formations. The loop is about 10 km with roughly 600 m of ascent.
