Haidou Summit from Erymanthos Forest Village (Xanthi)

Trail description

A short forest walk from the Erymanthos Forest Village, at about 1,200 m the highest inhabited village of Thrace, to the top of Haidou in the Rodopi mountains north of Xanthi. The path is about 2.5 km and takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. It climbs under beech trees up to 30 m tall in one of the finest old forests of the Rodopi. Bears, wolves and deer live in the area, and the endemic yellow Rodopi lily grows here.
