Trail description
The first section of the E4 coastal path east from Agia Roumeli, the village at the exit of the Samaria Gorge. The path crosses the river and runs just above a long beach to the mouth of the Eligias gorge, then climbs a little through pine trees above a rocky shore. It ends at the Byzantine chapel of Agios Pavlos, a small domed stone church built in the 11th century by Saint John the Hermit to mark the passage of the Apostle Paul. The walk takes about an hour, and a taverna with rooms stands near the chapel.
