Trail description

A 3.8 km walk from Bad Kösen along the Saale valley to the Rudelsburg, a castle ruin on a Muschelkalk limestone ridge 85 m above the Saale that was praised early in the 19th century as the most beautiful of the Saale castles, and on to the neighbouring Burg Saaleck. The Rudelsburg was probably built by the bishops of Naumburg to guard trade routes such as the Via Regia and the Saale bridge at Bad Kösen. Burg Saaleck, a few hundred metres upstream, is known for its two round keeps, each almost 23 m high; a stair climbs the western one to a viewing platform.
