Trail description

An 11 km hike from Elmau up the Königsweg, the forest road King Ludwig II was driven up by horse carriage or sleigh, past the Wettersteinalm and the Schachensee to the Königshaus am Schachen (1,866 m) in the Wetterstein range. The plain wooden house hides a lavish Turkish Room in Moorish style on its upper floor; since 2025 it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of Ludwig II's palaces. An alpine garden lies just below, and the house can only be reached on foot or by bike.
