Trail description

A 3.6 km walk from Stolberg in the Harz up to the Josephskreuz on the Josephshöhe (580 m) of the Großer Auerberg, a 38 m steel lookout tower in the shape of a double cross. Opened in 1896, it takes its form from Karl Friedrich Schinkel's wooden tower of 1834, but was built as a riveted steel frame on the model of the Eiffel Tower. A spiral staircase of 200 steps climbs to the platform, which looks over the lower Harz to the Brocken, the Großer Inselsberg and Magdeburg. The tower has opening hours and an entrance fee.
