Jagdschloss Granitz from Binz

A 2.9 km walk on Rügen from the eastern edge of Binz up through the woods of the Granitz to the Jagdschloss Granitz on the Tempelberg (107 m), the highest point of the Granitz. The hunting lodge, built from 1837 to 1846 in the style of northern Italian Renaissance castles, draws 200,000 to 250,000 visitors a year and is one of the most visited museums in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Its 38 m central tower, added in 1844 to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, holds a self-supporting spiral staircase of 154 cast-iron steps up to a viewing platform with a panorama in all directions.
