A 6.9 km climb on the most-walked route up the Hochgern in the Chiemgau Alps, from the Hochgern car park at Marquartstein up forest roads and paths to the Hochgernhaus (1,459 m), open all year, and then on a narrow path over grassy slopes to the summit cross at 1,748 m. There is no cable car on the Hochgern; in winter the steep upper slopes carry avalanche risk.
