Großer Inselsberg from Brotterode

Trail description

A 3.9 km climb from Brotterode to the Großer Inselsberg (916 m) on the Rennsteig, the fourth-highest mountain of Thuringia and the highest in the north-western half of the central Thuringian Forest. The summit is a narrow, domed plateau about 700 m long; on its north side the Inselloch drops some 300 m on slopes of up to 40 degrees, the steepest ground in the western Thuringian Forest.
