Buchberger Leite Gorge

Trail description

A 2.9 km walk through the Buchberger Leite near Freyung, a wild gorge up to 100 m deep that the Wolfsteiner Ohe has cut into the dark schist of the Bavarian Pfahl, named one of Bavaria's 100 most beautiful geotopes in 2003. The path runs from the car park above the gorge to its western entrance by the old Freyung carbide works. As early as 1846 a guidebook to the Bavarian Forest urged travellers not to miss this rocky gorge.
