Trail description

A 1.8 km walk near Oberstdorf through the Breitachklamm, carved by the Breitach river and, together with the Höllentalklamm, the deepest gorge in the Bavarian Alps and the deepest rock gorge in Central Europe. The path through the gorge was opened in 1905 thanks to the young Tiefenbach priest Johannes Schiebel, who founded the Breitachklamm cooperative to pay for it. Around 300,000 people walk it every year; the gorge closes for several weeks in spring and autumn.
