Refuge du Glacier Blanc

Trail description

A 4.4 km climb of about 620 m from the Pre de Madame Carle above Ailefroide to the Refuge du Glacier Blanc, at 2,542 m in the Ecrins massif. The staffed refuge lies on the route to the Refuge des Ecrins, about two and a half hours on foot from the road end. In 1862 Francis Fox Tuckett and his guides bivouacked under a rock among the seracs of the Glacier Blanc while attempting the Barre des Ecrins.
