Trail description

The walk starts at the Col d'Eylac, east of the summit, and follows the Ancien Chemin de Salers à Murat onto the ridge towards the Brèche de Rolland, then climbs the east ridge to the top of the Puy Mary. The peak is a remnant of the Cantal volcano, the largest stratovolcano in Europe, built up by eruptions between about 13 and 3 million years ago; glaciers then carved the seven valleys that radiate around the Puy Mary. The site has held the Grand Site de France label since 2012. The walk is about 1.6 km one way, with some 315 m of climbing.
