Trail description
The walk leaves the Parking de la Borne, passes the Borne au Lion and follows the marked ridge paths south to the summit of the Crêt de Chalam. The Borne au Lion is a frontier stone dated 1613 and a listed historic monument since 1926, and in July 1944 it sheltered the command post of the maquis leader Colonel Romans-Petit. The summit stands more than 900 m above the Valserine valley, and its view, already famous in the 19th century, reaches across the Haute Chaîne du Jura to the Mont Blanc massif. The walk is about 2.3 km one way, with some 265 m of climbing.
