Trail description
The walk starts at the Parking du Chalet by the Champ du Feu ski station and follows the Chemin de la Tour, partly waymarked as the GR 531, south-east across the open moor to the observation tower on the summit. At 1,099 m the Champ du Feu is the highest point of the Bas-Rhin, and its summit plateau of alpine grassland, forest and peat bogs is a Natura 2000 site. The 23 m tower was built by the Club Vosgien at the end of the 19th century and, according to the Bruche valley tourist office, is closed to the public while its renovation continues. The walk is about 1.9 km one way with some 90 m of climbing.
