Cap Sicié
Trail description
The walk starts at the Le Quicon car park and follows the Crête du Quicon and the Sentier des Crêtes de Roumagnan, one of the ONF-waymarked paths of the Massif du Cap-Sicié, along the ridge past the Notre-Dame-du-Mai chapel and the Piste du Sémaphore. It ends at a viewpoint above Cap Sicié; the steep path down to the tip, which runs beside an old path closed after a rockfall, is not used. The massif is a pocket of ancient schist within limestone Provence, covered with Mediterranean forest managed by the ONF, and it can be closed to walkers on days of very severe or extreme fire risk. The chapel on its summit, also called Notre-Dame de Bonne Garde, was built in 1625 as both a place of worship and a maritime lookout, after lightning struck the watchtower that stood there. The walk is about 4.6 km one way, with some 265 m of climbing.
