Laguna Verde Apaneca

Trail description

Walk up the track and the Calle a la Laguna Verde above Apaneca, on the Ruta de las Flores, to Laguna Verde, a crater lake in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec range at over 1,600 m. The lake fills the crater of an old volcano, about half a kilometre across and some 50 m deep, and takes its name from the green colour given by its water plants and the pine and cypress forest around it. A path circles the lake in about half an hour, and simple camping, boat rides and hammock rental are available. The climate here is cool, so bring a layer.
