Laguna de Alegría occupies the crater of the Tecapa Volcano, nicknamed the Emerald of America for its green and turquoise waters. From the town of Alegría, the path climbs to the crater, and a trail circles the lagoon amidst vegetation and sulfur fumaroles. The town is known for its cool climate and its flowers.
