Trail description

Short walk on the paths from the visitor centre to the Cueva de las Maravillas, a large cave between San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana, and on into its lit walkway. The cave holds more than 400 Taíno paintings and over 100 small petroglyphs, the only cave art in the country linked to Taíno funeral rites. About 240 m of its 800 m of passages are open on a 35-minute guided tour, with ramps and a lift that make it one of the most accessible caves in the Dominican Republic. It was discovered in 1926 and named Las Maravillas in 1949.
