Trail description
The classic hike in Morne Trois Pitons National Park runs from Titou Gorge at Laudat to the Boiling Lake, a flooded fumarole about 60 m across whose water is 82 to 92 °C at the edges and boils in the middle. The trail drops to the Breakfast River, climbs over Morne Nicholls (966 m) and then crosses the Valley of Desolation, an area of steaming vents and hot streams, before the final climb to the lake rim. Allow about 6 hours for the return trip and start early: the sign at the trailhead advises not setting out after 10 am, and a guide is strongly recommended. In the Valley of Desolation stay on the path, as stepping into hot water can cause severe burns, and there are no railings at the lake.
