Trail description
The walk starts at the Parque Cultural Huanchaca access on Avenida Angamos in southern Antofagasta and climbs a path along the south edge of the Ruinas de Huanchaca to a viewpoint above them near Avenida Argentina. The massive stone walls are the remains of the Playa Blanca silver smelter, built between 1888 and 1892 by the Huanchaca company of Bolivia to process ore from Pulacayo and shut down in 1902. The ruins were declared a Monumento Histórico in 1974 and now stand in a cultural park with a museum, an esplanade and an amphitheatre. The walk is about 0.7 km one way, with some 45 m of climbing.
