Trail description
The walk starts at the Los Peumos car park in the Río de los Cipreses National Reserve and follows CONAF's Sendero Maitenes, a valley track with several stream fords, and then the Sendero Puente La Leona up the Río de los Cipreses valley to the Puente La Leona footbridge. The reserve was created in 1985 and has groves of mountain cypress on its rocky slopes and guanacos in the upper valley, and it has helped the recovery of the tricahue parrot. CONAF warns of debris flows and rockfall on both trails from April to August, and allows day visits only within opening hours; entry tickets are sold through the official Pases Parques site. The walk is about 7.5 km one way, with some 155 m of climbing.
