Trail description

A 2.7 km walk with about 90 m of climbing on the Rano Raraku path among the moai on the slopes of the crater, in Rapa Nui National Park. Rano Raraku is a crater of volcanic tuff on the lower slopes of Terevaka. For about 500 years, until the early 18th century, it was the quarry for about 95 per cent of the island's known moai, and 887 moai remain there. The crater walls are high and steep except on the north and north-west.
